Tour de France

And they’re marching to Bastille day

There’s no bread, let them eat cake
There’s no end to what they’ll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they’re marching to Bastille day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel to let his kingdom rise

Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And they’re marching to Bastille day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, o choirs of the cacophony
The king will kneel to let his kingdom rise

Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast

For they marched up to Bastille day
La guillotine claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Where power isn’t all that money buys

Oh yes, and a Frenchman is wearing the yellow jersey in France on Bastille Day. Nice.

Le Tour de France 2014

Going completely off topic for a moment, it’s the Grand Depart for the 2014 edition of the Tour de France. Yes, I know, people love the World Cup, but to me The Tour is big event sporting for the year; 21 days of racing and some of the most spectacular scenery. The 2013 edition was pretty damn spellbinding with Chris Froome taking yellow, but there was plenty of excitement with the wild sprint finishes, the grueling climbs and all the unpredictable elements that make the Tour so fun to watch. So here was are again for Stage 1 hosted in England. I wish NBC would offer more cycling on their VOD system instead of just this one race. You can watch days worth of poker, but you can’t get footage of a bike race. What’s up with that?

Anyway, I’m so excited the race is on. The cobbles of Stage 5 should shake things up a bit and the pressure is on Froome to pull off another win.

And just to throw it out there, Audials will get some heavy use over the next couple of weeks to record these stages Smile

Utter Chaos for Cavendish, Sagan and Greipel on Stage 1 of the 100th Tour de France

It was a crazy finish as the actual finish line was blocked by the Orica GreenEdge team bus, the finish line was moved to 3km out, the bus was moved, the finish line was moved back to the original position, then there was a crash that took out Mark Cavendish and Peter Sagan. Andre Greipel managed to avoid the carnage, but feel victim to a flat tire that took him out of the finish as well. The three leading men all taken out for their chance to win the Yellow Jersey.

All that gave the big win to Marcel Kittel who walked away with the Yellow, Green and White jerseys. What was supposed to be a flat out sprint by the fastest men turned into a battle to simply survive and get to the end. What a completely unexpected finished to the first stage of the race.

Just think, 20 more stages to go.
