Plague

Finally scored big with the Nipah Virus in Plague Inc

Well now, this took a lot longer than expected to complete. My first run with the Nipah Virus went pretty well, that is until Greenland decided to be a holdout and not let my virus in. Next time around, Iceland followed suit. Why you guys have to deny me? I’m just trying to spread the love!

But through persistence I managed to claim victory. Well, sort of a victory. I finished the scenario but just missed getting 3 biohazards. It took just a touch over 400 days so I was denied. So I tried again. And again. And again.

I did manage to infect Greenland, but it didn’t spread fast enough and all the carriers died before it could really take hold. Curse the bad luck!

But I got em this last time! No one was spared and they all fell. Turned out to be a lot tougher than I thought. Damn good fun though.

I still need to go back and complete the Simian virus at some point. That is the last one to complete out of the regular viruses. I put on such a poor showing the last few times, I’m a bit gun shy to try again.

Kept the cure rate down which is good.

Humanity devolves back to Neanderthals in Plague – Like that’s a stretch

It’s time for the Frozen Virus in Plague Inc, the long dormant virus strain that must rebuild itself and send humanity back to the dark ages. At our current rate of progress it’s not actually that big of a stretch, but let’s focus on the game.

An 30,000 year old virus has been discovered in Russia and must be pieced back to together in order to infect humanity. It’s a pretty weak strain and won’t survive in warmer climates.

So, you have to start off in Russia, which is a new one for me since all my outbreaks are launched from India. Second, this relies almost exclusively on animals as a Transmission source.  Third, the Symptoms are related to bone structure such as stronger jaws and a change to the cranial structure – thus Neanderthal.

Pretty cool scenario actually as you have to go through the Abilities tree and repair all the DNA sequences so you can get Symptoms and the rest of Abilities. Without the repair you can’t get Drug Resistance or Heat Resistance which you’re going to need to survive.

My first attempt was 99% successful, but the Caribbean managed to isolate themselves and with all the shipping lanes and ports closed I couldn’t get them. I have no problem in getting Greenland since they are close to Russia and the disease is already comfortable in cold weather.

I used Insects, Birds and Livestock to transmit the disease and it spread quite rapidly. The red biohazard bubbles were popping up all over the place! I then repaired all 5 DNA segments then filled in both Drug Resistance options and all 3 Heat Resistance options. This caused the disease to spread through South America, Africa and Australia like wildfire. It’s also pulled in the Caribbean and Madagascar so they couldn’t hide this time around.

This got things rolling quite nicely and I had plenty of mutations going on at the same time. For the final Symptoms I filled in the right side of the tree to get Bone Dysplasia, Cranial Elephantitis, and Neanderthal Regression. You need to evolve this last one in order to push humanity over the edge and revert their evolutionary state.

It goes by pretty quick and if you move things along at a good pace, you’ll still have plenty of points and the Cure Progress will be minimal. I think I caught humanity off guard on this one because the cure was pretty low and I had a points left over for Immaturity and Aggression which really threw the cure for a loop.

Oh no, we’re devolving!

Teleportation and Artificial Organs can’t stop me in Plague Inc

So I’m starting to get my pestilence spreading rhythm back as I smash through both the Teleportation and Artificial Organ Scenarios in Plague Inc. It’s not that I just got them done in my usual lackluster style of achieving 1 biohazard as the rank, I managed to get 3 biohazards for my effort. Even with the ability for people to run away and hide using their teleporters, I was able to send my fastest ships full of contagion and deliver a care package right to their door. Lots of people chose Greenland as their safe haven which is fine for the short term, but once I get ya, you’re doomed! Which is exactly what happened.

I was able to get the Transmission and Symptom vectors going so quickly that the disease spread and killed everyone off before the Cure efforts could even got off the ground. I managed to end the game with 0% Cure.

I also accumulated so many points that I was able to fill out almost the entire Symptoms tree. There were only one or two left and it wasn’t worth going after those because humanity was already on the brink. Dysentery, Necrosis and Total Organ Failure and key to total annihilation. The first just infect the hell out of everybody and the last one knocks them all done.

For the Artificial Organ scenario, I basically did the same thing, using Necrosis and Dysentery to spread filth far and wide. But then for the kicker, I added Insanity and holy things got nasty. People started ripping out their transplants! The death toll went out of control right after that. Yikes, that is some nasty business right there!

This makes the first time I’ve managed to get the 3 biohazard rating. It was on Normal so a victory for me, but a snubbing of the nose by those who really know what the hell they’re doing. I’m in no way ready to tackle Brutal. I like the satisfaction of winning from time to time, not the abject humiliation of losing time and time again.

Using Teleporters people evacuated Brazil and left it for dead. Now that everyone is dead, property values should be pretty good.

2015-04-19_00003

First 3 biohazard rating and the Cure Progress never got started.

2015-04-19_00004

Yikes! People have lost their minds! Oh yeah, they actually did, I unleashed Insanity on them.

They got started on the Cure, but it was too damn late!

I Am Black Death – Plague Inc

So, this Scenario took me longer to complete than I thought mainly because Greenland, New Zealand, Madagascar and a couple other fringe countries wouldn’t play nice and bow down to my whim. But, with a little perseverance I managed to get the Black Plague to spread across the globe, even into these far off nooks and crannies and bring humanity to it’s knees and then put it face down in the dirt.

Normally a bacteria level is fairly easy to complete, but Black Death has a couple of tricks. First, you need to unlock Symptoms and Transmissions evolving the Pneumonic Plague and Septemic Plague. Without these you really won’t get far and that also threw me off the first round.

Once those are unlocked you really need to work on Transmission and in my opinion Water. This bacteria spreads fast so airports shut down early on, but boat ports remain open. I doubled up on the Water Transmission and threw in Fleas, Rodents and Birds for good measure.

With the plague spreading it was time to get that Cure Rate under control. That was ticking up like a watch so I threw in several of the Drug Resistance and some Genetic Shuffle. I still think Genetic Shuffle should be a dance – will have to watch YouTube for that.

The points rack up fast and there is the temptation to go all-in and use them, but it seems better to hold out for a bit and make sure things spread evenly. If the symptoms are too bad you can’t keep up with the cure rate and everyone shuts you out.

I hit the right rhythm and made it to all the ports in time. There is still a great deal of satisfaction to be had when Greenland gets infected and that big red bubble pops up over them. It’s like a banner of victory.

The Black Death Scenario isn’t all that hard, it’s almost more a game of keeping the plague from getting out of control too fast. I went crazy go nuts with the massive amount of points I collected in the first couple of games and I got shut out of all the hot spots right from the start. I think I had 200 points waiting to be used, but humanity wasn’t ready for me yet.

Always good fun to get in some time with Plague Inc before heading off to work where everyone in the office is coughing and hacking and sneezing and blowing and dripping. It makes you wonder what matter of disease and contagion you’re really exposed to.

That’s right, not a single healthy person left standing. They might still be standing, but not for much longer!

Ok, fine, it’s not the best score in the world, but at least I got it done. My career as a mad scientist is limited, I know.

Spreading Holiday Cheer Far and Near with the Neurax Worm in Plague Inc

You don’t have to live in Whoville to be the Holiday Cheermeister, you can spread love and joy using the Neurax Worm! Since I’m doing so poorly with the Simian virus, I thought I would check out the Scenarios and see what sort of damage I could cause. The first scenario is to spread holiday cheer using mind control. Oh, this could be fun!

Well now, the Transmission, Symptoms and Abilities screen certainly look different don’t they? There is no bleeding from the eyes, or leaking from naughty places, it’s been replaced with the ability to sing songs and spread the joy through selfies. It was actually a little disorienting, I wasn’t sure what to do. I guess I’ll start spreading the cheer through snowballs and see how it goes.

I have to say, it was pretty damn amusing. The goal was to get the borders back open and get people all full of joy so they wouldn’t want a cure. How strange indeed.

But I did manage to spread the love and joy and even sent a special care package over to Greenland and New Zealand. They were being very Grinchy and so I sent a plane load of presents directly to them and within moment, the holiday cheer was infectious. Go Neurax Worm!!

Next up is the Black Death, both a fascinating and frightening contagion. Interestingly, there is a link to the Wikipedia article right in the game, what does that tell you?
