Another UPS bites the dust
Well this is annoying. At 2am this morning I was awoken to the sound of beeping. It wasn’t the alarm, but instead a UPS crying out in distress. The massive red replace battery light was on and the enclosure was alerting every few seconds. Yet another UPS battery has died on me. This makes the third one.
So far I’ve lost two APC AV900 units and now the 750 has blown out. I bought new batteries for the AV900, at $50 a piece, but it didn’t make any difference, the units never powered up correctly and continually “popped” going back and forth between battery and main power.
I’ve taken a chance and ordered a replacement battery, but to be on the safe side I ordered 2 550VA units. I’ll split the load between the two of them. This unit was responsible for powering my machine AMD X4 machine and several of my external hard drives. That machine is out of commission for the time being and even with Amazon Prime, the UPS won’t be here until Tuesday. Who knows when the replacement battery will get here – probably not until the end of the week.
I hate losing UPS devices, it’s such a pain in the ass. Well, I’d rather lose a UPS than the actual machine that’s connected to it.
